‎Iyabo Ojo Not Wanted: Nigeria Police Debunk Viral Poster as Fake

‎By Prosper Mene

‎The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has dismissed a viral “wanted” poster circulating on social media claiming that Nollywood actress and entrepreneur Iyabo Ojo was wanted by the Office of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Monitoring Unit.

‎The Force has labeled the poster as “false, misleading, and not issued by the NPF,” urging the public to disregard it and refrain from spreading misinformation.

‎In an official statement posted on its verified Facebook page on Thursday, August 21, 2025, the NPF clarified that the poster, which featured Iyabo Ojo’s photograph and the inscription “SPECIAL POLICE WANTED,” did not originate from any of its departments or official platforms. “FAKE NEWS ALERT! This ‘WANTED’ poster of actress Iyabo Ojo did not emanate from the Nigeria Police Force. It is false, misleading & was never posted on any official NPF platform,” the statement read. The police further emphasized the importance of verifying information through official NPF channels to avoid falling victim to false reports.

‎The viral poster, which sparked widespread reactions and confusion online, falsely alleged that a bounty had been placed on Iyabo Ojo’s arrest. The NPF has since called on Nigerians to exercise caution and rely solely on verified police sources for accurate information. Authorities also noted that investigations are underway to identify the source of the fake poster and hold those responsible accountable.

‎Iyabo Ojo, a prominent figure in Nollywood, has faced significant public scrutiny in recent months, including threats and cyberbullying related to her advocacy for justice in Mohbad’s case.

‎The NPF’s swift response aims to curb the spread of misinformation and restore clarity regarding Iyabo Ojo’s status.
