Bovi Ugboma and Nomzamo Mbatha Unveiled as Hosts for 2026 AMVCA

By Prosper Mene

The Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) has officially announced Nigerian comedian, actor, and producer Bovi Ugboma and South African actress and humanitarian Nomzamo Mbatha as the co-hosts for the 12th edition of the prestigious ceremony.

The duo will take the stage on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos, bringing a fresh blend of sharp wit, elegance, and continental star power to Africa’s biggest night celebrating excellence in film and television.

This marks a significant transition for the AMVCA, as Bovi and Nomzamo step in after veteran broadcaster IK Osakioduwa hosted the show for a decade. The announcement has generated excitement across the continent, with many describing the pairing as a perfect mix of Nigerian comedic timing and South African screen sophistication.

Bovi Ugboma, widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s leading stand-up comedians and a versatile actor and writer, expressed his enthusiasm about the opportunity. “The AMVCA stage is one of the biggest in Africa, and I don’t take that lightly,” he said. In a separate interview, he described hosting the awards as a major career milestone and “a feather” in his cap.

Nomzamo Mbatha, an award-winning actress known for her roles in international productions and her work as a humanitarian and advocate, brings global appeal and poised stage presence to the hosting role.

The announcement comes shortly after the full list of nominees was revealed in late March, with the 2026 edition featuring expanded categories and a strong emphasis on pan-African storytelling. The ceremony will be broadcast live on all Africa Magic channels, starting at 7:00 PM WAT.

Fans and industry stakeholders have already begun trending the news on social media, with many praising the “powerful continental pairing” expected to deliver humour, glamour, and memorable moments.

As anticipation builds toward May 9, all eyes will be on Bovi and Nomzamo to see how they steer what promises to be one of the most vibrant and talked-about AMVCA editions yet.
