Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, on Tuesday approved the immediate reappointment of Mrs. Titilayo Olayinka as the new Accountant General of the state.
The appointment was announced in a statement by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, in Ado-Ekiti. It comes barely 24 hours after Mrs. Olayinka retired from the state civil service as Accountant General/Permanent Secretary on attainment of the mandatory retirement age of 60.
According to Oyebode, the move aligns Ekiti with other states such as Enugu, Osun, and Akwa Ibom that have retained experienced retired Accountants General to oversee the state’s finances. Other states including Kwara, Ebonyi, Imo, Abia, and Katsina have also appointed professionals from outside the civil service into the same role.
The governor’s aide noted that Mrs. Olayinka served meritoriously as Accountant General from November 28, 2019 to August 24, 2026, and her recall underscores Oyebanji’s commitment to placing competent professionals in strategic positions ahead of his second-term administration.
“In her new role, Mrs. Olayinka will bring a wealth of experience in accounting, auditing, project management, expenditure control and procurement to bear,” Oyebode said.
He added that the governor has mandated her to design and implement a comprehensive training programme for accountants across the state civil service to boost professional capacity.
A Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and Associate member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, Mrs. Olayinka holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and an MBA. She has extensive experience in the private sector, public sector, and international development.
Oyebode credited her for Ekiti’s improved rating on transparency and fiscal management over the last six years. He cited the state’s No.1 ranking in the BudgIT State Fiscal Transparency League for Q2-Q4 2024 and Q1-Q4 2025, as well as its recognition by PLSI as a leading state in local government budget transparency and the Subnational Audit Efficacy Index.
Ekiti was also rated among the top 10 states in the country for publishing detailed and accessible budget information for all its LGAs and LCDAs.
“These recognitions reflect strong competence, transparency, effective auditing processes and prudent financial management,” the statement read.
Governor Oyebanji, while congratulating Mrs. Olayinka, urged her to continue serving with “greater distinction and dedication,” and commended her for her previous meritorious service to the state.
