Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, to Commission Landmark Elderly Citizens Centre in Akwa Ibom This Saturday

The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, will on Saturday, March 7, 2026, officially inaugurate the ARISE Elderly Citizens Centre in Akwa Ibom State, a purpose-built facility designed to elevate the quality of life for senior citizens.

The commissioning ceremony forms the centerpiece of the First Lady’s maiden official visit to the state and coincides with the grand finale of an ongoing women’s sensitization and mobilization tour organized in collaboration with state authorities.

Located along the Arise Medical Corridor on the Uyo–Ikot Ekpene Road, the modern centre targets residents aged 65 and above. It houses a dedicated geriatric health clinic, serene relaxation zones, recreational areas, and communal spaces intended to foster social interaction, medical support, and overall well-being for the elderly.

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State announced the forthcoming inauguration during the March edition of the Government House Monthly Covenant Service, describing the project as a deliberate investment in the dignity and care of older citizens. The initiative aligns closely with the federal government’s Renewed Hope Initiative, which has already delivered financial and material assistance to elderly residents across the state in previous phases.

The unveiling of the ARISE Elderly Citizens Centre represents one of the most visible expressions yet of synergy between federal leadership and state-level innovation in addressing geriatric care needs in southern Nigeria.

Rather than merely adding another building to the landscape, this Saturday’s event quietly redraws the map of compassion, one thoughtful facility at a time offering Akwa Ibom’s seniors not just longer lives, but lives lived with greater comfort, connection, and respect.
