When the brief is wedding couture and you’re the designer everyone calls, there’s only one thing to do: dress yourself.
That’s exactly what Veekee James did at the Lagos premiere of “A Mama Deola Wedding Story” on Wednesday, September 2. The fashion designer and creative director arrived looking every bit the bride, in a bespoke white ballgown of her own creation.

The Gown: Couture Made Personal
Known for dressing Nigeria’s biggest stars, Veekee put that same energy into her own premiere look.
She wore a white ballgown featuring a structured basque-waist corset and a full, floor-sweeping skirt. The standout was the bodice: a sheer illusion yoke with cap sleeves, detailed with rows of crystals and beads arranged in a swirling, architectural pattern across the chest.

The skirt maintained its shape with soft pleating at the waist, while the textured white fabric gave the gown a refined finish.
The Bridal Details
Veekee completed the look with a long tulle veil attached at the crown and extending to the floor. She held it out behind her for photos, giving the ensemble a proper bridal finish.
Her jewelry matched the grandeur: long silver drop earrings with stacked rectangular-cut diamonds, a tennis bracelet, a circular statement ring, and a large diamond wedding ring set. She finished with a classic French manicure.
For hair, Veekee wore a half-up, half-down style with the crown shaped into a structured bow, while sleek straight lengths fell down her back. Her makeup featured a sharp winged cat-eye, bronzed cheeks, rosy blush, and a glossy nude-brown lip.
The Designer Becomes The Muse
Veekee James has built her name creating couture moments for actresses, musicians, and public figures. From red carpets to bridal, her label has become synonymous with custom, high-drama glam.
For “A Mama Deola Wedding Story,” she flipped the script and became her own muse. Given the theme, a Veekee James-designed ballgown, veil, and diamonds felt like the most fitting choice.
