By Prosper Mene

Lagos, Nigeria – April 28, 2026

In a glamorous celebration of creativity, skincare, and digital storytelling, CeraVe Africa successfully hosted the inaugural CerAwards 2026 (CeramoVE Edition), shining a bright spotlight on Nigeria’s booming creator economy. The event, held on April 23, 2026, at Jewel Aieda in Lekki Phase I, Lagos, rewarded top content creators with all-expense-paid trips to Paris and over ₦12 million in prizes.

Nigeria was chosen as the launchpad for the CerAwards Africa 2026 due to its vibrant digital creator scene and the strong distribution network and market presence of Konga Health, CeraVe’s strategic retail partner. The partnership underscored Konga’s commitment to supporting Nigerian talent and the creator ecosystem.

Celebrating Creativity with a Nollywood Twist

The awards invited Nigerian content creators to participate in the #CeraMoVE Challenge, where they recreated iconic Nollywood scenes incorporating CeraVe skincare products. With over 800 submissions, a public voting phase on cerawards.com.ng selected 24 finalists who attended the star-studded gala.

The evening featured a fashionable “blue carpet,” celebrity appearances (including Nollywood stars), and recognition across multiple categories such as Best Original Content, Best Viral Video, Cera-Slay, Cera-larious, and more. Notable winners included:

Perpetua Ugwuegede, Boluwatife Lawal, and Iyanuoluwa Sowemimo — who earned all-expense-paid trips to France (Paris) for exposure to the global beauty industry.

Beryl Inegbenose — Best Original Content.

President Shaks (Joseph Momoh) — Best Viral Video.

Other standout creators took home cash prizes, with some categories awarding up to ₦2 million in content creation gear or cash, plus additional recognitions like Best Dressed.

The event also honoured Nollywood veterans and jury members, blending legacy storytelling with modern digital content creation.

Konga Health played a pivotal role as the primary retail and distribution partner, making CeraVe products widely accessible across its platforms and stores. The partnership enabled creators and consumers to easily purchase CeraVe products while participating in the challenge. Konga’s involvement highlighted its dedication to health, beauty, and empowering Nigeria’s digital economy.

Industry observers see the CerAwards as a significant boost for Nigeria’s creator economy, providing not just monetary rewards and international exposure but also validation for content creators who are increasingly shaping culture, beauty trends, and brand narratives across Africa.

A Global Stage for Nigerian Talent

CeraVe, the world’s No. 1 dermatologist-recommended skincare brand, used the platform to affirm its commitment to the African market while bridging local creativity with global opportunities. Winners’ trips to Paris will connect them with international creators and beauty professionals, potentially opening doors for future collaborations.

The successful inaugural edition has set a high bar for future CerAwards, positioning Nigeria as a key hub in Africa’s beauty and creator economy.

CeraVe is a dermatologist-developed skincare brand known for its effective, science-backed formulas featuring three essential ceramides that help restore the skin’s protective barrier.

Konga on the other hand is one of Nigeria’s leading e-commerce platforms. Through Konga Health, it provides convenient access to quality healthcare, beauty, and wellness products.

Fresco Gallery Teams Up with Gbolahan Ayoola for Third BlueWoman Silk Scarf Launch

Gbolahan Ayoola, the Lagos-based artist whose work explores themes of human anthropology and spirituality—focusing on duality, identity, and memory within contemporary African contexts—has partnered with Fresco Gallery to unveil the third edition of his BlueWoman silk scarf series.

Between Crown and Current is a double-sided original piece printed on 100% silk, where Ayoola presents two contrasting images in conversation. One side features a composed, frontal figure—representing the self as it chooses to be perceived. The opposite side depicts the same presence amidst a fluid landscape of currents, symbols, and drifting forms, where the aspects of a person beneath public composure move freely, unburdened by performance. These two surfaces are not opposed; they are two truths belonging to the same individual: the face shown to the world and the one that exists solely in private.

When the scarf is worn, one side is visible to everyone, while the other remains unseen against the skin—known only to the wearer, representing their current reality.

This release marks the third instalment in the BlueWoman series, following two previous editions that have established its reputation among collectors. The first edition gained popularity through word of mouth alone, selling out before its official launch—testament to the enthusiasm for Ayoola’s wearable art.

“What I find interesting about identity is how much of it is spatial, how we arrange ourselves differently depending on where we are and who is present, not out of dishonesty but out of the complexity of being a full person in a world that rarely makes room for all of it at once. I wanted the work to carry both sides without resolving the distance between them, because that distance is not a problem to be solved. It is simply the condition of being human.”— Gbolahan Ayoola

The BlueWoman Series is part of a wider expansion of Ayoola’s practice into new media, complementing a painting career that spans over twenty years. His work is included in the collections of the World Bank in Washington D.C., the African Finance Corporation in Nigeria, and the Nigerian National Gallery of Arts. His work has featured in productions for Netflix and Amazon Prime, and has been exhibited at the 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair in London, Abu Dhabi Art Fair, and the Investec Cape Town Art Fair.

**Between Crown and Current (BlueWoman x Ayoola III)** is printed on 100% silk, 14 momme, measuring 35 x 35 inches. Released as a strictly limited edition of 200, each scarf is numbered, finished with a rolled hem, and priced at ₦150,000 / $120. It is available exclusively through Fresco Gallery at thefrescogallery.com.

#NeverGettingMarried: Fisayo Longe & Afolabi Mosuro Turned Their Traditional Wedding into a Masterclass in Personal Style Lagos, Nigeria

By Prosper Mene

In a celebration that blended bold creativity, cultural pride, and high fashion, British-Nigerian fashion entrepreneur Fisayo Longe, founder of Kai Collective, and creative director Afolabi (Folabi) Mosuro said “I do” in a vibrant traditional wedding that has taken social media by storm.

The couple, who playfully branded their union with the hashtag #NeverGettingMarried, proved that when two style-savvy creatives tie the knot, the result is nothing short of a fashion spectacle. Held in Lagos, their ceremony and reception served as a runway for innovative takes on Nigerian traditional attire, complete with custom pieces, striking colour palettes, and modern twists on classic elements.

Fisayo Longe, known for her visionary approach to fashion through Kai Collective, didn’t just wear the looks — she infused the entire event with her brand’s DNA. Guests stepped out in custom Kai Collective aso-ebi, turning the wedding into an immersive brand experience that included coordinated outfits, bold prints, and even elements reminiscent of a fashion show. One observer described it as “a full Kai Collective moment,” where loved ones didn’t just attend a wedding but stepped into the bride’s creative vision.

The couple’s own outfits stood out for their fearless fusion of tradition and contemporary edge. Highlights included:

Metallic gold corsets paired with dramatic silhouettes

Neon lime silks that brought electric energy to the celebration

Structural crimson brocade designs

Hand-painted skirts, aso-oke gele and fila (headwraps and caps), and luxe accessories from designers like Misho Designs, Mazelle Bridal, Couture by Tabik, JW Pei, Dolce & Gabbana, Christian Louboutin, and more

Afolabi complemented Fisayo’s looks with equally sharp styling — from tailored agbada to modern interpretations featuring Bally and Louis Vuitton shoes, with styling support from Denola Grey. The duo’s pre-wedding and introduction moments also featured multicoloured ensembles and rich Yoruba-inspired elements, including coral beads and handwoven textiles.

Creative direction came from Timonilonge, with wedding planning by Coker Creative and production elements handled by Folabi himself through Created by Clique. Photography and videography captured the magic, with credits going to talents like Chuchu Ojekwe, Moeez, and others.

What made the wedding truly memorable wasn’t just the opulence or the fashion — it was the authentic celebration of love, culture, and personal expression. The event honoured Nigerian traditions (including Yoruba and Edo influences) while pushing boundaries with avant-garde details like custom prints, textured fabrics, and joyful, unapologetic colour blocking.

Social media has been flooded with praise, with many calling it one of the most stylish Nigerian weddings in recent memory. Fashion enthusiasts and guests alike highlighted how the couple redefined “wedding style” by making it deeply personal, community-driven, and forward-thinking.

As one guest put it while rocking custom Kai Collective aso-ebi: “It was an absolute banger… celebrating love, creativity, and the community they’ve built.”

Fisayo and Afolabi’s #NeverGettingMarried celebration is a reminder that when style meets substance — and love gets the final say, the result is timeless.

Congratulations to the newlyweds! May their union continue to inspire bold, beautiful expressions of self and culture.

History Made! Alexia Jayy Becomes The Voice’s First Black Woman Winner After 15 Years

By Prosper Mene

In a moment that will be etched in music history forever, powerhouse vocalist Alexia Jayy has shattered ceilings and stolen hearts as the winner of The Voice Season 29.

The 31-year-old soul singer from Irvington, Alabama, made history on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, becoming the first Black woman to claim the crown in the show’s 15-year run.

Competing under the guidance of coach Adam Levine (who just secured his fourth Voice victory), Alexia – a proud Miles College alumna, devoted mom of three, and born Bri Jackson – lit up the stage from her very first Blind Audition. Her rich, soul-stirring tone had coaches turning chairs faster than you could say “I want you on my team!” But it was her journey through the battles, knockouts, and live shows that truly proved why she was unstoppable. From belting out Aretha Franklin and Whitney Houston classics to delivering a show-stopping rendition of Adele’s “One and Only” in the finale that left all three coaches in tears, Alexia poured her heart, soul, and everything in between into every note.

The finale was nothing short of electric. Alexia faced off against strong finalists including Liv Ciara, Mikenley Brown, and Lucas West, but when host Carson Daly called her name as the winner, the entire studio erupted. She stepped on stage for one last emotional performance, then joined Adam for a joyful duet of Maroon 5’s “Sunday Morning.” Adam, visibly emotional, couldn’t stop raving about his artist. “She’s one of the best singers I’ve ever heard sing,” he declared. “I was really just her biggest cheerleader.” His advice to her throughout the season? Simple but powerful: “Just keep doing what you’re doing… Tell yourself that and you’ll be fine. Just get out there and love singing.” Alexia took it to heart – and the rest is history.

Born and raised in Mobile County, Alabama, Alexia has been singing since she was two years old. A former high school drama standout and Miles College graduate, she had already released her own singles and EP Mixed Emotions before stepping into The Voice spotlight. Her win wasn’t just personal – it was a full-circle moment for her tight-knit community back home. Upon returning to Irvington, family, friends, and fans threw her the ultimate homecoming celebration. “These are all the singers in my family, and they’re celebrating because I won ‘The Voice,’” she shared with a huge smile. Her uncle Leodis Payne added, “She stayed with it, and I don’t have to tell you she’s great… she’s great.”

In true champion fashion, Alexia is already moving forward. She walked away with the $100,000 prize and a recording deal with Republic Records (under Universal Music Group). And guess what? She dropped her first post-win single, the catchy mid-tempo R&B banger “Rent Free,” proving this is only the beginning. In her own words on Instagram: “A whole watch party for the finale… then hearing my name called as the winner. I got on that stage right after, poured my heart out… Forever grateful. Just the beginning.”

The internet is still buzzing! Fans across the globe are flooding social media with praise, calling her “the voice we’ve been waiting for” and celebrating the long-overdue milestone for Black women on the show. One thing is crystal clear: Alexia Jayy didn’t just win The Voice – she rewrote the narrative.

Congratulations, Queen Alexia! The stage is yours, the world is watching, and we can’t wait to see (and hear) what you do next.

Dr Omolola Salako Launches ‘The GIFTS of Survivorship: You Are Bigger Than Cancer’ to Redefine Cancer Survivorship in Nigeria

By Prosper Mene

In a powerful gathering of policymakers, healthcare leaders, development partners, cancer advocates, and survivors, renowned oncologist Dr. Omolola Salako officially unveiled her groundbreaking new book, The GIFTS of Survivorship: You Are Bigger Than Cancer.

The launch, held on March 29, 2026, at GAIA Africa Club in Lagos, is a bold step toward transforming how Nigerians view and experience life after a cancer diagnosis.

Dr. Salako, Founder and CEO of Sebeccly Cancer Care, Oncopadi Technologies, and Pearl Oncology Specialist Hospital, drew from two decades of clinical practice, thousands of patient interactions, and deep personal reflection to create the book. Recently named one of the 100 Most Influential CEOs in Oncology globally in 2025, the only Nigerian on the list, she described the work as “born from the real stories and experiences of real people.”

“This book is a reminder that even in the most difficult moments, there is strength, there is hope, and there is life beyond cancer,” Dr. Salako told the audience.

The GIFTS of Survivorship is not just another cancer memoir or medical textbook. It is a practical, evidence-based self-help guide designed specifically for cancer patients, survivors, and their family caregivers. Structured around a unique five-part, ten-pillar framework (the GIFTS model), the book covers spirituality, knowledge-building, robust support systems, treatment navigation, and inner peace. Readers receive step-by-step strategies to manage treatment side effects, handle financial pressures, strengthen family relationships, and rediscover purpose and joy after diagnosis.

Far beyond survival statistics, the book reframes survivorship as a journey of transformation, turning a cancer diagnosis into a catalyst for existential clarity and purposeful living. It blends scientific insight with spiritual wisdom and real-life survivor stories to equip readers with tools for thriving, not merely enduring.

The star-studded launch featured high-profile guests including Dr. Claudina Sanwo-Olu (First Lady of Lagos State), Hon. Lola Akande (Nigeria’s Ambassador to Sweden), Dr. Babatunde Salako (CEO, Hadiel Health), elder statesman Dr. Fred Omojole (the author’s father), and Engr. Clementina Adetoro (Board Member, Sebeccly Cancer Care). Special Guest of Honour Osayi Alile, CEO of ACT Foundation, praised the initiative: “Survivors are not defined by what has happened to them, but by who they become.”

The Chief Launcher, Dr. Kola Adesina (represented by Dr. Adebayo), commended Dr. Salako for bridging science and humanity. Heartfelt testimonies came from survivors Oluwaseunfunmi, who first encountered the GIFTS principles in 2017 during counselling with Dr. Salako and Oluwatosin, a colon cancer survivor who described the book as an “essential companion” for anyone touched by cancer.

Dr. Salako’s vision extends far beyond book sales. Every copy purchased supports Sebeccly Cancer Support Centre, and the movement aims to distribute 10,000 free copies to patients and families across Nigeria. The book is now available for purchase at ₦25,000 on Amazon, Selar, and for local pickup at Pearl Oncology Specialist Hospital in Lekki.

Dr. Salako’s message is clear: Cancer does not have the final word. You are bigger than cancer.

About the Author

Dr. Omolola Salako is a Consultant Radiation and Clinical Oncologist, passionate advocate for cancer prevention, early detection, and holistic survivorship care. Through her organisations, she has supported thousands of Nigerian families affected by cancer.
