The Senators’ Wives Association of Nigeria has expressed profound grief over the passing of Professor Janet Plang, wife of Senator Diket Plang, describing her death as a “sad and shocking” loss to the association and the nation.
Professor Plang, a distinguished academic and member of the association, passed away at Jos University Teaching Hospital, leaving behind a legacy of intellectual excellence and compassion.
According to a statement issued by the President of the Association, Dr. (Mrs.) Unoma Akpabio, Professor Plang was celebrated as “a woman of grace, intellect, and compassion, a true pillar in our circle and beyond.” The statement showcased her significant contributions, noting that her “warmth and wisdom will be remembered and deeply missed.” Dr. Akpabio extended heartfelt condolences to Senator Diket Plang, their children, and the entire Plang family, praying for strength to bear the irreplaceable loss.
Professor Janet Plang was a renowned Professor of Gender Studies and Gerontology at the University of Jos, known for her impactful work in academia and her dedication to uplifting youth and communities in Plateau State. Her death has been described as a devastating blow, not only to her family but to the people of Plateau Central, where she was regarded as a motherly figure and a mentor to many.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) also mourned her passing, with Publicity Secretary Shittu Bamaiyi stating, “Professor Janet’s death is a colossal loss to Senator Plang’s family and a devastating shock to the entire people of Plateau State.” The party praised her as a “virtuous, humble, and humane” academic whose influence touched countless lives.The Senators’ Wives Association called on the public to keep the Plang family in their thoughts and prayers during this period of mourning, as they join in honoring the memory of a remarkable woman whose legacy will endure.
