The First Lady of Nigeria, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, has paid a heartfelt tribute to former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as a great leader who served the nation with integrity, dedication, and love for his people.
The statement comes following the news of Buhari’s passing, which has prompted an outpouring of condolences and reflections on his legacy across the country.
In her condolence message, Mrs. Tinubu expressed deep sadness at the loss of the former president, emphasizing his commitment to Nigeria’s progress. “Our nation has lost a great leader who dedicated his life to the service of our beloved country,” she said. “Former President Buhari served Nigeria with unwavering commitment, integrity, and a deep love for his people.” She further prayed for Almighty Allah to grant Buhari Al-janah Firdaus and to comfort his wife, family, and all Nigerians during this period of mourning.
Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s president from 2015 to 2023 and previously as military head of state from 1983 to 1985, was widely recognized for his disciplined leadership and anti-corruption stance. Posts on social media showed similar sentiments, with users describing him as a statesman whose legacy of simplicity, patriotism, and national service will endure. One user noted, “His leadership laid a foundation that will influence generations to come,” while acknowledging that his administration faced challenges.
The Labour Party also praised Buhari’s efforts to steer Nigeria toward integrity and discipline, while former Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, described him as a mentor and father figure whose loss is deeply felt. Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, announced that Buhari’s burial is scheduled for Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Daura, his hometown.
