A heartbreaking case occured and has caused discussions on emotional sensitivity, mental health, and the power of words in relationships. A 23-year-old aspiring model identified as Tannu Singhย allegedly died by suicide after being deeply upset by a derogatory comment from her husband.
The incident occurred in the Takrohi area of Indiranagar, Lucknow, around late January 2026. According to Uttar Pradesh Police and multiple media reports, Tannu was at home with her husband, Rahul Srivastava (an auto driver), and possibly her sister or sister-in-law during a casual family conversation or light-hearted banter.
During the interaction, Rahul reportedly jokingly referred to Tannu as a “monkey”, a remark that profoundly hurt her. Sources indicate Tannu was sensitive about her appearance and passionate about pursuing a career in modeling, which may have amplified the impact of the insult, perceived by her as mocking her looks or ambitions.
Tannu reportedly left the room, locked herself inside, and later took her own life by hanging. Family members discovered her unresponsive, and she was declared dead at the scene. No foul play has been suspected so far, with police classifying it as a suicide triggered by emotional distress from the remark.
Rahul has described the comment as “just a joke, nothing else,” according to statements reported in outlets like Deccan Herald and India Today. Investigations continue to understand the full circumstances, including any underlying factors in the marriage (the couple had reportedly been married for about four years following a brief affair). No formal complaint has been filed against the husband as of early February 2026.
The case has drawn attention to broader issues, including how seemingly casual insults can have devastating effects, especially amid personal insecurities or societal pressures around beauty and career aspirations in modeling. Mental health advocates emphasize the importance of empathy in relationships and recognizing signs of emotional vulnerability.
