“Redefining Influence”: NIMN Launches Initiative for Women in Marketing Ahead of International Women’s Day

The National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (NIMN) has announced the launch of its inaugural LeadHers in Marketing Conference, a landmark event designed to empower, mentor, and elevate women within the marketing profession. Scheduled to take place on Friday, 6th March 2026 at the Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos, the conference is themed “Redefining Influence: Women Shaping the Future of Marketing”.

The initiative marks a strategic shift for the Institute, moving beyond simple representation to actively driving leadership and visibility for women in the industry. By aligning the event with the month of March to coincide with International Women’s Day, NIMN aims to celebrate the strides women have made while addressing the “ground still to cover” in reaching top-tier leadership roles.

Dr Bolajoko Bayo-Ajayi, President of NIMN at the Press Conference held at the institute’s Secretariat, explained that the “LeadHers” initiative was born out of a desire to see women move past functional marketing areas into visionary leadership positions.

“For us, it’s not just about saying we are women in marketing,” Dr Bayo-Ajayi stated. “The vision is to ensure that we’re building women into leadership positions by providing a platform to drive visibility, make an impact, and provide mentorship”. She noted that while women have made significant progress, there remains a “general assumption” that marketing roles do not always lead to the same executive heights as fields like finance. The initiative seeks to “clean that narrative” by focusing on capability, career development, and professional integrity.

Discussing the choice of theme, Dr Bayo-Ajayi highlighted that influence in the modern marketing landscape is shifting. “Redefining Influence” focuses on moving away from personal achievement toward building a “pipeline” for the next generation.

“The job doesn’t end in your personal achievements,” the President remarked. “It’s actually how you then begin to build a pipeline and encourage other women to learn from your journey. If there’s nothing that bridges the gap between the old and the new, then the process is truncated”.

The conference will feature a prestigious array of guest speakers and industry veterans carefully chosen for their ability to inspire and lead.

Special Guest of Honour: The event will be graced by Folashade Bada Ambrose, the Honourable Commissioner for Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade and Investment for Lagos State. Her presence underscores the Institute’s close ties with the government, as the NIMN was established by an Act of Parliament under the Ministry of Commerce.

The keynote address will be delivered by the Osayi Alile, CEO of Aspire Coronation Trust Foundation(ACT). Though she comes from the NGO and grant-giving sector rather than a traditional marketing background, Dr Bayo-Ajayi noted she was selected as a “leader who inspires” to demonstrate that leadership transcends specific industries.

Following the keynote, a panel of three distinguished women—including industry leaders such as Chioma Afe, Director of External Affairs , Seplat Energy; Adebola Williams, Marketing Director at Promasidor; and Onyinye Ikenna-Emeka ,Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) will discuss the future of women in marketing and the evolving nature of influence. The session will be moderated by Chizor Malize, Director-General of the Financial Institutions Training Centre (FITC),, a prominent member of the NIMN.

A highlight of the day will be a Fireside Chat featuring Folake Soetan, CEO of Ikeja Electric PLC. This session will focus on digital visibility and how leveraging the digital space can drive a personal brand and career growth. The chat will be moderated by Tosin Adefeko, Founder and CEO of AT3 Resources.

The LeadHers in Marketing Conference aims to target a broad audience, from students aspiring to enter the profession to women in FMCG, government, and the wider marketing ecosystem. Ultimately, the NIMN hopes to position Nigeria as a hub for competent women leaders who can contribute meaningfully to the industry and the nation at large.

“We want our women to get to leadership positions and strengthen the path from marketing to other executive roles,” Dr Bayo-Ajayi concluded.

Empowering Women in Communications: Experiencing Public Relations Celebrates Fifth Anniversary with Global Outreach

Experiencing Public Relations, the flagship initiative of the Public Relations Women Foundation, is celebrating its fifth anniversary with a significant step onto the international stage. The organisation has announced the launch of a five-part global webinar series, developed in strategic partnership with leading institutions and prominent ecosystem collaborators across multiple regions worldwide.

As the Foundation’s premier gathering for women leaders, entrepreneurs, government professionals, and senior decision-makers, Experiencing PR examines how public relations and strategic communications deliver measurable economic, societal, and institutional value—particularly within emerging markets. Over the past four years, the Summit has established itself as a respected cross-sector platform where women in leadership engage in high-level dialogue on the influence of narrative, reputation, and communication in fostering sustainable growth. Marking this milestone year, Experiencing Public Relations is expanding its reach beyond Nigeria’s borders, heralding a new era of cross-continental dialogue and collaboration around the strategic role of public relations in business and governance.

According to the Convener, Tolulope Olorundero, the international expansion reflects both growth and intentionality. “From the beginning, Experiencing Public Relations was never designed to be just another industry event. It was built as a platform, one that positions public relations as an economic contributor to national, continental, and global development, especially in emerging markets. Public Relations itself is a leadership function central to innovation, investment, and sustainable economic growth. As we mark five years, taking the Summit global is a natural progression of that vision.”

The five webinars will be hosted in collaboration with carefully selected international partners from Africa, Asia, and North America. Each session will bring together women in leadership—including high-level executives, founders, policymakers, and communications experts—to explore how narrative strategies shape markets, influence capital flows, strengthen institutions, and foster competitive advantage amid an increasingly complex global economy.

Over the years, Experiencing Public Relations has distinguished itself by convening diverse stakeholders and championing a core message: that strategic communication is not peripheral but foundational to business success. Through thought leadership, high-level conversations, and cross-sector engagement, the platform has consistently demonstrated how public relations impacts investment outcomes, brand longevity, policy development, and public trust.

This global expansion underscores the increasing influence of Experiencing Public Relations within international business circles and reinforces its commitment to elevating women’s leadership in the communications industry. By forging partnerships across continents, the platform aims to build stronger bridges between industries, governments, and emerging markets—particularly amplifying conversations around women’s entrepreneurship and the power of narrative in the Global South.

As Experiencing PR embarks on this new chapter, the expansion reflects the broader mission of the Public Relations Women Foundation: to elevate women’s leadership, uphold professional standards, and promote inclusive participation within the industry. Through its expanding global footprint, the Foundation continues to position public relations as a strategic pillar for economic and institutional progress worldwide.

Nigeria Police Force Gears Up to Honor 70 Years of Women in Policing

By Prosper Mene

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) is preparing to mark a historic milestone by celebrating 70 years of women’s contributions to law enforcement. The event, announced by Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, honors the courage and dedication of female officers since their first enlistment in 1955.

Scheduled for December 3-4, 2025, the two-day commemoration will bring together serving and retired policewomen to reflect on their transformative impact on national security.

Over the decades, women have joined the ranks of the NPF in growing numbers, breaking barriers in a traditionally male-dominated field. From handling administrative duties to leading tactical operations and investigations, female officers have proven their mettle in diverse roles. Their entry in 1955 marked the beginning of a gradual shift toward gender inclusivity, helping to build a more balanced and empathetic police service.

IGP Egbetokun praised the women as “pillars of integrity, empathy, and excellence,” crediting them with enhancing the force’s operational success and public trust. He highlighted how their compassionate approach has redefined policing, fostering stronger community ties and improving responses to sensitive issues like gender-based violence. This anniversary underscores the NPF’s progress in empowering women to rise to leadership positions.

The celebration will feature a lineup of engaging activities designed to educate and inspire. Highlights include a national lecture on the evolution of women in policing, an exhibition showcasing historical artifacts and milestones, and interactive panel discussions with veteran officers. These sessions will explore challenges faced and lessons learned, offering insights for future generations.

A community outreach program will cap the events, focusing on mentoring young women interested in law enforcement careers. This initiative aligns with the IGP’s vision for ongoing training and development, ensuring female officers receive the tools to excel. By promoting professionalism and inclusivity, the NPF aims to attract more diverse talent to its ranks.

This 70th anniversary serves as a powerful reminder of women’s enduring role in safeguarding the nation. The NPF’s commitment to their advancement not only strengthens the force but also inspires broader societal change.

National Mental Health Campaign “REJUVENATE 2025” Set to Empower Women and Youth Across Nigeria

The Whole Women Community and Recharge Life Centre are gearing up for their flagship event, REJUVENATE 2025, an annual Wellbeing and Mental Health Conference & Roadshow scheduled from June 25 to July 19, 2025. The event will take place across various locations in Nigeria, aiming to reach an audience of more than 6,000 individuals.

Under the theme REJUVENATE, the conference seeks to elevate awareness and deliver practical solutions to Nigeria’s escalating mental health challenges, particularly among women and youth. The initiative is organized in partnership with the University of Lagos, The Traders and Small Business Association (Ifo, Ogun State), and the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria Region 3 (Ogun State).

Organized by the Recharge Life Centre and Whole Women Community—both licensed and accredited mental health institutions affiliated with the International Association for Counselling and the Institute of Counselling Nigeria—the event continues over a decade of commitment to mental health education, counseling, and therapy. The organizations collaborate with various public and private stakeholders to promote emotional well-being nationwide.

Amid Nigeria’s current economic hardships, mental health has become a crucial concern. Rising poverty and social pressures have adversely impacted emotional stability, especially among women and youth. Experts warn that without targeted mental health interventions, the country’s productivity and individual wellness will suffer.

“REJUVENATE 2025 is more than just a conference—it’s a nationwide movement to restore hope, resilience, and emotional health in our communities,” said Mrs. Ediri Ose-Ediale, Executive Director of Recharge Life Centre.

The roadshow will be held in four phases between June 25 and July 19, 2025.

The phases will include a Teens Mental Health and Emotional intelligence event at the International School Lagos on the 25th of June; a
Mind Hack event at the Nurudeen Alao Auditorium University of Lagos on the 8th July 2025 and the Women’s Mental Wellbeing Conference
billed for the 9th of July at the University of Lagos.

This year, the exclusive gathering brought together 35 corporate women in a safe, closed-door setting to explore the challenges of balancing life, career, family, and relationships. The intimate session provided a platform for participants to share their stories, learn practical strategies, and gain valuable insights on blooming in every aspect of their lives.

The event builds on the foundation laid in April 2023, when Oluwasola Obagbemi, Convener of The Bloom Conversations with Sola, launched the initiative with 30 phenomenal women from diverse industries. At the inaugural session, Sola shared her personal and professional journey, highlighting life lessons that have shaped her success. The atmosphere encouraged participants to share openly, creating a supportive space for growth and mutual encouragement.

The first edition featured distinguished speakers, including Audrey Joe-Ezigbo, Folake Sanu, Folake Soetan and Nkiru Olumide-Ojo. These leaders shared invaluable insights on navigating life’s challenges with strength, resilience, and grace. More than a year later, their lessons continue to inspire and fuel Sola’s vision of empowering women to bloom wherever life plants them.

“This second edition is about going deeper,” Sola shared during her address. “It’s about tackling the unspoken questions women often face, building resilience, and fostering a network of support where women can openly share and grow together. Traditional conferences, summits and webinars often lack the intimacy required for vulnerability and actionable problem-solving. The Bloom Conversations with Sola breaks those barriers, creating a space where women can connect, share, and win together.”

The initiative is breaking the silence around postpartum depression (PPD), a condition that can significantly impact new mothers in the critical period following childbirth.

The webinar featured insights from medical professionals like Dr. Laja Odunuga, who explained the difference between the common “baby blues” and the more severe, long-lasting PPD. The discussion highlighted how PPD can manifest not just as sadness but through severe fatigue, disconnection from the newborn, and loss of interest in activities, which can last well beyond the typical two-week period associated with baby blues.

Otomfon Ibanga, emphasized the role of support systems, urging families and friends to be vigilant for signs of PPD and to provide a nurturing environment.

She also discussed prevention strategies, including prenatal planning for support structures, and post-delivery management through therapy or medication.

The webinar underscored the need for community involvement, not just in recognizing symptoms but in actively participating in the healing process by offering emotional and practical support.

The Mums Feel Warmth webinar was more than just an educational session; it was a call to action for society to embrace and support new mothers dealing with PPD. By fostering open conversations and providing platforms for sharing experiences, Mums Feel Warmth continues to lead the charge against the stigma of PPD. The commitment shown by the panelists and attendees alike promises a future where every mother has access to the understanding and care needed to navigate through the complexities of postpartum depression, ensuring that the joy of motherhood is not overshadowed by mental health challenges.

Fola Fin Conference 2024: How Two Leading Women Are Championing Generational Wealth Creation In Nigeria

By Azeez Disu

The need for businesses to create profitable enterprises that outlive the founder was advocated for at the 2024 edition of the Fola Fin Conference organized by two leading global women entrepreneurs, Sheneya Wilson, and Temitope Akinsemoyin. The two amazons believe that any woman or anyone regardless of their background can achieve financial empowerment and build sustainable wealth for generations to come.

Sheneya is the Founder of Fola Financial, a U.S.-based financial services firm while Temitope is the Founder of Stanchion TM Consults NG; a firm offering capacity development, strategic management, project management, and human resource management.

Fola Fin Conference which serves as a rallying point for businesses, individuals, and entrepreneurs to grow their businesses was held in Lagos and Abuja recently.

The event was conceptualized to help African entrepreneurs thrive in the global competitive environment, providing them with financial literacy and advocacy skills including operational and technical skills, leadership and relationship-building skills, and accounting and business skills.

According to Sheneya, “It was inspired by a desire to help more Africans gain the skills, and tools needed to thrive in the global competitive environment. Like, as we know, technology has taken over everything, but it’s also making access to doing business easier. I don’t want any black Americans, or anyone including people who live in Africa, to miss out on being able to take advantage of how the market is currently going in terms of globalization.”

She added “We wanted to create a conference where it wasn’t just about talking and being inspirational, but about giving people skills that they can take home and actually utilize. So, things like budgeting and saving, investing, and of course, doing accounting for themselves and for their businesses. I think these skills are pivotal in giving people what they need to be confident so they can explore and build them well for themselves.”

Tax Literacy

Sheneya emphasized the need for citizens to understand tax matters better despite many don’t trust their government.

She explained “One thing that I know that Nigeria is going through but also a lot of other developing nations in Africa are going through, is tax reform. When you talk to people, they say that they don’t pay taxes because they don’t trust the government because they believe they are corrupt.”

She added that to change the narrative, it is empowering citizens with knowledge of tax and financial literacy through its conference and other initiatives, which will enable them to hold their government accountable.

“A big piece of the conference was talking about tax literacy and then team members presented their project about how they can act as tax advocates and how everyone else can. We need the taxes to work for us, whether you’re in America or whether you’re in Nigeria. We need roads to be built, we need public schools to be funded, we need public hospitals to be funded, public parks to be cleaned for our children, roads to be done,” she stated.

Making Impact

‘What is the purpose of building anything if people aren’t impacted? What’s the purpose of being wealthy and rich, If the people who live around you are all poor?” Sheneya asked.

She explained that she believe that the Fola Fin Conference and other initiatives under her watch will have a multiplier effect on society and the economy.

“We empower these small businesses, they employ people and then, the people educate their children. It’s like pouring wealth, which starts with knowledge, into society and it is going to have a long-term effect. And that’s what we’re hoping to achieve with initiatives like this,” she stated.

Also, as part of the initiative, an outreach program was embarked on to support the less privileged in accessing quality healthcare.

Speaking on the impact of the conference on the Nigerian economy, Temitope said “A lot of people are now more enlightened about tax issues and finances and this conference is like a pathway which will help accelerate economic growth. The next cohort of fellowships is coming up in 2025 where people will be able to start their career in finance. So, it is not just about people coming to garner experience that will help their businesses but also to help them create career paths in finance and tech”.

Commending the organizers for putting the event together, Chukwuemeka Chiejina, Retail Team Lead, Retail & Consumer Banking unit, Sterling Bank, and one of the sponsors said the event was impactful and equipped participants on the way to manage their finances which aligned with the bank’s goal.

“People tend to spend their profit alongside their capital but the event empowered participants on how to separate their capital from profit and also develop a saving culture. We came to support the program because we are keen on supporting startups.”

Fola Global Apprenticeship Program

Noteworthy, Fola Financial and Stanchion TM Consults NG launched the Apprenticeship program recently to equip young Nigerians with essential financial and business skills for global competitiveness. It also aimed to teach them about the U.S. tax system, get them certified to do taxes in America, and also teach them about how the tax system works in Nigeria.

Interestingly, five individuals emerged out of about 250 applicants for the apprenticeship program and they were unveiled at the Fola Fin Conference 2024.

According to Sheneya, “We had over 250 applicants. Temitope helped screen them to where it was only 50, then from there we interviewed 10 people and then we chose our top five.”

Similarly, Temitope said it leveraged technology to make the screening process seamless. “Technology helped us out and eased the stress during the selection process.”

The top five winners have also been certified by the Internal Revenue Service in America after excelling in their exams, will work virtually from Nigeria, and will get paid. “They will be working with U.S. taxpayers, doing the tax returns and, of course, they’ll be paid for it. So, I think they’re all excited about that,” Sheneya stated.

Temitope stated that the program gives people the room to get training and start a career in finance, taxation, and tech. “Once they qualify they are able to go through between 8 weeks to 12 weeks of training and afterwards they start working with Fola Financial and some of our other partners and they get paid actually. It’s a paid apprenticeship”.

She explained further that after a year, the trainees under the program will be considered for permanent job placement.  “After one year, they are considered for a permanent placement with Fola Financial or some of our other partners. So we absorb them or we help them to grow and develop their own businesses at the end of the day,” she disclosed.
