Nigerian celebrity chef Hilda Baci has officially been confirmed as a three-time Guinness World Records holder, marking a significant milestone in her culinary career.
The latest recognition comes from Guinness World Records (GWR), which reviewed her September 12, 2025, achievement during the World Jollof Festival in Victoria Island, Lagos. Initially certified for the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice, a massive 8,780 kilograms (19,356 lb 9 oz) prepared in collaboration with food brand Gino, the same feat has now also been awarded the title for the largest serving of rice overall.
This surprise additional record elevates Baci’s tally to three official Guinness titles. Her first came in May 2023 for the longest cooking marathon (individual), where she cooked continuously for 93 hours and 11 minutes, inspiring global attention to Nigerian cuisine. Although that marathon record was later surpassed by others, her subsequent accomplishments in 2025 have solidified her legacy.
Baci announced the news on January 20, 2026, via Instagram, sharing a screenshot of an email from Andrew Fanning, Head of Client Partnering at Guinness World Records. In her post, she expressed shock and gratitude: โWoke up a three-time Guinness World Records holder and Iโm still trying to wrap my head around it. What a way to step into 2026.โ
She reflected on the moment, noting that what she initially believed was a single record turned out to be two from the same effort. Baci thanked God for His faithfulness, her dedicated team, Guinness World Records, and everyone who supported her journey. โTo my incredible team, this is our win,โ she wrote. โEvery long day, detail, and push, they all mattered.โ
The 8,780 kg of jollof rice, enough to serve over 16,600 portions was prepared over nine hours and distributed to prevent waste, in line with GWR guidelines. The event drew thousands of supporters, highlighting the cultural pride in Nigerian jollof rice.
Baci, born Hilda Effiong Bassey, has become a symbol of perseverance and innovation in African gastronomy. This latest confirmation underscores her impact, putting Nigerian cuisine firmly on the global map once again.
Congratulations to Hilda Baci on this remarkable achievement.
