In a moment that will be etched in music history forever, powerhouse vocalist Alexia Jayy has shattered ceilings and stolen hearts as the winner of The Voice Season 29.
The 31-year-old soul singer from Irvington, Alabama, made history on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, becoming the first Black woman to claim the crown in the show’s 15-year run.

Competing under the guidance of coach Adam Levine (who just secured his fourth Voice victory), Alexia – a proud Miles College alumna, devoted mom of three, and born Bri Jackson – lit up the stage from her very first Blind Audition. Her rich, soul-stirring tone had coaches turning chairs faster than you could say “I want you on my team!” But it was her journey through the battles, knockouts, and live shows that truly proved why she was unstoppable. From belting out Aretha Franklin and Whitney Houston classics to delivering a show-stopping rendition of Adele’s “One and Only” in the finale that left all three coaches in tears, Alexia poured her heart, soul, and everything in between into every note.
The finale was nothing short of electric. Alexia faced off against strong finalists including Liv Ciara, Mikenley Brown, and Lucas West, but when host Carson Daly called her name as the winner, the entire studio erupted. She stepped on stage for one last emotional performance, then joined Adam for a joyful duet of Maroon 5’s “Sunday Morning.” Adam, visibly emotional, couldn’t stop raving about his artist. “She’s one of the best singers I’ve ever heard sing,” he declared. “I was really just her biggest cheerleader.” His advice to her throughout the season? Simple but powerful: “Just keep doing what you’re doing… Tell yourself that and you’ll be fine. Just get out there and love singing.” Alexia took it to heart – and the rest is history.

Born and raised in Mobile County, Alabama, Alexia has been singing since she was two years old. A former high school drama standout and Miles College graduate, she had already released her own singles and EP Mixed Emotions before stepping into The Voice spotlight. Her win wasn’t just personal – it was a full-circle moment for her tight-knit community back home. Upon returning to Irvington, family, friends, and fans threw her the ultimate homecoming celebration. “These are all the singers in my family, and they’re celebrating because I won ‘The Voice,’” she shared with a huge smile. Her uncle Leodis Payne added, “She stayed with it, and I don’t have to tell you she’s great… she’s great.”
In true champion fashion, Alexia is already moving forward. She walked away with the $100,000 prize and a recording deal with Republic Records (under Universal Music Group). And guess what? She dropped her first post-win single, the catchy mid-tempo R&B banger “Rent Free,” proving this is only the beginning. In her own words on Instagram: “A whole watch party for the finale… then hearing my name called as the winner. I got on that stage right after, poured my heart out… Forever grateful. Just the beginning.”
The internet is still buzzing! Fans across the globe are flooding social media with praise, calling her “the voice we’ve been waiting for” and celebrating the long-overdue milestone for Black women on the show. One thing is crystal clear: Alexia Jayy didn’t just win The Voice – she rewrote the narrative.
Congratulations, Queen Alexia! The stage is yours, the world is watching, and we can’t wait to see (and hear) what you do next.
