Some love stories begin with fireworks. Theirs began with a sales tag.

Back in 2016, Cristiano Ronaldo, then at the peak of football — walked into a Gucci store in Madrid. Behind the counter was Georgina Rodríguez, a sales assistant who wasn’t even scheduled to work. It was her day off, but she’d stepped in to cover a friend’s shift.
Ten years to the day they met, the couple closed the circle in the most understated way: with a private civil ceremony in their living room in Cascais, Portugal, with their five children as the only guests.
A decade later, “el click” finally came
On August 11, 2026, Vogue confirmed that Ronaldo and Rodríguez tied the knot in an intimate ceremony at home. No stadium-sized guest list. No red carpet. Just family.
Fans first got a glimpse of their story in Georgina’s 2022 Netflix series, I Am Georgina. She recalled the day Ronaldo walked in with his son Cristiano Jr. and friends. “Handsome. Very tall. Instant butterflies,” she said.
For years the narrative around them was told mostly through Ronaldo’s career — five Ballon d’Ors, Champions League titles, stints at Sporting CP, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus, Al-Nassr, and Portugal. But away from the pitch, Georgina became the anchor. She helped raise their children and built her own brand, while Ronaldo repeatedly called her the “pillar” of his home life.
In that same Netflix doc, Ronaldo was asked about marriage. His answer went viral: they would wed when they felt “el click.” He didn’t know if it would be in a month, a year, or six months — but he knew it would come.
It did. On August 11, 2025, Georgina announced the proposal on Instagram. Exactly one year later, they said “I do.”
A family built through joy and heartbreak
Their journey as a couple has spanned their highest highs and deepest lows.
In 2017 they welcomed twins Eva Maria and Mateo, followed months later by daughter Alana Martina. In 2022 they had twins again, Bella Esmeralda and Ángel. Bella survived. Ángel passed away shortly after birth.
Through it all, Rodríguez has been a constant presence in Ronaldo’s life off the field.
A wedding at a milestone moment
The wedding also lands at a significant point in Ronaldo’s career. At 41, he made history in 2026 as one of the few footballers to feature in six World Cups. Just before the tournament, Portugal played Nigeria in a warm-up in Leiria, winning 2–1. Pedro Neto and Francisco Conceição scored for Portugal, with Akor Adams netting for the Super Eagles.
For Nigerian fans, sharing a pitch with Ronaldo one more time felt like a full-circle moment — from his Manchester United and Real Madrid glory days to this late-career chapter.
Whether this World Cup marks his final bow is still unknown. But if it does, he’s stepping away with more than trophies. He’s stepping away with the family he built.
Congratulations to Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodríguez.
